What is the Wilderness?
What is the Wilderness?
When I talk about “the wilderness,” I don’t mean a place on a map. I mean the seasons of life that feel uncharted, overwhelming, and uncertain. The wilderness is any space where the old path has disappeared, and the new one hasn’t shown itself yet.
For some, the wilderness looks like divorce or the loss of a relationship. For others, it’s illness, grief, job transition, or a dream that didn’t turn out the way they hoped. The wilderness is where the ground beneath you shifts, and suddenly you’re left asking: Where do I go from here?
The Nature of the Wilderness
The wilderness feels…
Unfamiliar. There aren’t clear signs or step-by-step directions.
Lonely. You may feel like no one else truly understands what you’re walking through.
Overwhelming. The questions feel bigger than the answers you can find.
Transformative. Though uncomfortable, these seasons often become turning points in our lives.
Why I Use This Image
I chose the wilderness as the heart of my coaching practice because it’s honest. Life isn’t always paved roads and clear skies. Sometimes it’s rocky terrain, overgrown trails, and long stretches without shade. But here’s the truth: the wilderness is not the end of the story. It’s the space in between—the place where growth, resilience, and new direction are forged.
Finding Your Way Through
When you’re in the wilderness, you don’t need the entire map. You just need:
Clarity to see the next step.
Calm to breathe in the middle of chaos.
Direction to know which way to turn.
Companionship so you don’t have to walk alone.
And that’s why I am here: to provide a safe, supportive space to pause, reflect, and keep moving forward—even when the trail isn’t clear.
Closing Thought
If you find yourself in the wilderness right now, know this: you are not lost. You’re in a season that will shape you, grow you, and eventually lead you to new ground. And you don’t have to walk it alone.
